Giant sloth skeleton peeking through a window at the Cape Fear Museum

Size: 1024×768

A giant sloth skeleton peers out of a window, greeting visitors to the Cape Fear Museum of History and Science in Wilmington, North Carolina. Originally created by the Daughters of the Confederacy as a “creditable museum of Confederate relics”, the Cape Fear Museum began as The Confederate Museum in 1898. Throughout the years it has had several names and been housed in at least 4 different buildings. Today it is located at 814 Market Street and offers a variety of exhibits on the history, ecology, and natural history of the lower Cape Fear region.
