Ocracoke Lighthouse on Ocracoke Island, NC

Size: 683×1024

This is Ocracoke Lighthouse on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. It is the shortest lighthouse on the Outer Banks. Accessible only by water or air, Ocracoke Island is one of the barrier islands of the Outer Banks of North Carolina where the pirate Blackbeard is known to have once roamed. The village, which is located on the island’s southern sound side, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 and includes the 1823 Ocracoke Lighthouse as well as several historic commercial buildings, over 100 homes, the British Cemetery, and the Banker Ponies.
