A nutria at the Lake Mattamuskeet

Size: 1024×731

This is a nutria on the shore of Lake Mattamuskeet in Hyde County, North Carolina. The nutria is a large, semiaquatic rodent. It was originally introduced to North America for hunting purposes. Though its fur is still considered valuable in some regions, it is now considered a pest in most places for its destructive burrowing and feeding patterns.
