Lera Harrill is the man in the center wearing a black jacket. Provided by the Green ‘N’ Growing Collection (The History of Home Demonstration and 4-H Youth Development in North Carolina), Special Collections, North Carolina State University Libraries. About the photograph
In 1927 Mr. Harrill sent a group of 4H boys and girls to the first National 4H Camp in Washington, DC.
He worked very hard to create lots of great campgrounds for 4H kids and started a group called The Honor Club. The Honor Club was started because Mr. Harrill thought that boys and girls with leadership skills should be given opportunities to become important leaders.
