Haywood Hall Museum House and Gardens
Oldest house within Raleigh's original city limits on its original site; built in 1799 by State Treasurer John Haywood.
This was the home of John Haywood, Treasurer of the State of North Carolina from the late 1700s to his death in 1827. He was a trustee for the University of North Carolina and Haywood County was named for him when it was formed in 1808.
When visiting the house, students will learn about John Haywood’s descendants, family portraits, furnishings and about 200 years of Raleigh’s growth.
The house is open from March through December on Thursdays from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. There is no charge for admission. For special tours, contact the resident manager at 919-832-8357 or by email manager@haywoodhall.org.
