Old Mill Stream Nursery Nature Adventures

This 70 acre nursery and preserve provides nature adventure field trips for students in grades K through 5. Each adventure program correlates with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.

  • American Field Guide A collection of online videos that explore many aspects of America's wilderness from animals to earth and space to public policy.
  • Lesson plan: From dirt to dinner This lesson serves as an introductory study of the plant world. The lesson allows students to study seeds, parts of plants, microclimates, and how to grow seeds into vegetable plants for harvest. Parents are encouraged to assist at home.
  • Lesson plan: Animals, Animals, Animals In this lesson students will learn to observe special characteristics and senses which influence the life of an animal and become aware of threats to animals and their habitats and how this affects everyone.

Part of the North Carolina Project Wild Site, the Old Mill Stream Nursery provides students with a wonderful learning experience on plants and animals. These adventures include touring a greenhouse, exploring a beaver dam, taking a hayride, potting plants, and much more.

Teachers will find supplemental educational materials that coincide with the programs offered by the nursery. Lesson documents may be downloaded or printed from the website.
