• Lesson plan: A Walk Through the Solar System A practice in scientific notation, measurement, and scale distances, this lesson plan integrates mathematics into the science curriculum.
• Your Sky A virtual planetarium students can tailor to create a sky map or look at the sky from the observing site of their own choice by setting time and place. The Virtual Telescope allows students to zoom in on particular objects in the sky.
• Our Solar System Virtual tour of our solar system. You can move close to the sun and see each planet in its orbit, observe planets and extraterrestrial weather patterns up close, and more on this site.
• Lesson plan: Sizing up the solar system Students use the internet to investigate and design various models of size and distance related to the solar system.
• Lesson plan: Tour of the solar system Students, in groups, will research, design, and create a PowerPoint presentation on the planets. The class will then take a “tour of the solar system.”

Legal

The Planetarium is able to serve as a “time machine”, capable of taking the most casual observer on a celestial adventure into the past or the future, as well as providing a view of the sky from anywhere in the world. Housed in the Jimmy R. Jenkins Science Center, the ECSU Planetarium is located at the intersection of Hoffler Street and Southern Avenue in Elizabeth City. Admission is FREE and shows are by RESERVATION ONLY. The Planetarium accepts reservations for groups of twenty (20) or more.
