Originally created by the Daughters of the Confederacy as a “creditable museum of Confederate relics”, the Cape Fear Museum began as The Confederate Museum in 1898. Throughout the years it has had several names and been housed in at least 4 different buildings. Today it is located at 814 Market Street and offers a variety of exhibits on the history, ecology, and natural history of the lower Cape Fear region.
Special curriculum-based programs are offered to K-12 teachers and their students when they visit the museum. Educator packets are available for these programs. Guided tours of the museum are fee-based and available by request. To schedule a visit, call 910.341.4350 x3018.
