A trip to the Mountain Gateway Museum in Old Fort gives students a look into the past and helps them understand the importance of preserving local and regional history.

This museum near Asheville interprets the Mountain region’s history from the earliest inhabitants through the settlement period and into the twentieth century. Students can learn about the “handmade instruments and homemade music” of the mountain people.
