located at 1500 East Garrison Boulevard in Gastonia, the Schiele Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, offers exceptional opportunities for families and visitors to see the region’s rocks and minerals, hills and rivers, and plants and animals. Learn how these things connect the past and present peoples of the Carolinas’ Piedmont. Students will enjoy the Nature Trail and the 18th-century Backcountry Farm, as well as learning of Catawba Indian ways.
The James H. Lynn Planetarium offers 45 minute programs for as many as 150 participants per show. “See rotating planets, moons, galaxies, comets, nebulae, asteroids and black holes playing across the domed ceiling. Images from the Mariner to Pathfinder expeditions will transport you to another reality, and state of the art projections of the deep space objects captured by the Hubble Telescope are sure to dazzle.”
The Schiele Museum will come to you! Museum educators will bring all materials for a hands-on experience. Programs usually last an hour and they can accommodate up to 100 participants per session. Program topics include geology, simple machines, animals, astronomy, and more.
The museum is open Monday - Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Call (704) 854-6676 to schedule a group visit. There is a charge for admission as well as a charge to visit the planetarium.
