The museum is a non-profit organization whose mission is to "collect, display and preserve historical and cultural artifacts and objects and to stimulate and encourage interest and support of the history, art, science and culture of the Belhaven area, of Beaufort County, and of eastern North Carolina." On the second floor of the historic city hall building, the Belhaven Memorial Museum offers visitors a view of the eclectic collections of Mrs. Eva Blount Way. Gathered in the early 1900s as a means of raising money for the American Red Cross, they include an eight-legged pig, a wedding party of dressed fleas and over 30,000 buttons of varying colors and shapes.

Located in the Old Town Hall, the Belhaven Memorial Museum is open from 1 to 5 p.m. daily except for Wednesdays. Admission is free. Call (919) 943-6817 for more information.
