This house has been restored to preserve and provide information about the material culture of Edgecombe County, with an emphasis on the lives and careers of Thomas Blount (1759-1812) US Congressman, and Hobson Pittman (1899-1972) American regionalist artist.

The Blount-Bridgers House, a National Historic Landmark, exhibits locally made antique furniture and nineteenth century paintings of Edgecombe County citizens. Included are works by Thomas Sully, Thomas Landseer, and William Garle Brown. There are also nineteenth century ceramics, textiles, and metal works.
