The Rudolph Howell and Son Environmental Learning Center consists of over 2,800 acres containing nine natural communities and a diverse flora and fauna. Rudolph Howell donated the land to Johnston Community College and wanted it to be used as an outdoor classroom. The Learning Center brought Mr. Howell’s wish to reality. The property is actively managed for the benefit of wildlife, educational opportunities, and low impact outdoor recreation by the staff of Johnston County Community College. Howell Woods offers a variety of educational and entertaining programs and activities for all ages.

The Howell Woods Learning Center is located at 6601 Devil’s Racetrack Road in Four Oaks. To arrange a visit to the center, call 919-938-0115.
