  • Big Apple History from New York to Your Town Explore the history of New York City, learn more about your hometown, and learn how to become a good citizen.
  • Lesson plan: Our Community Helpers Each student will choose a different community helper. Once they have chosen their helper the student will then draw their community helper using Kid Pix. With the help of an adult they will be required to type one sentence about their helper. These pictures will be used to form a classroom book entitled Our Community Helpers.
  • Lesson plan: Creating A Community Students will design a community and take into consideration the structures and human resources necessary for a balanced community. They will evaluate their community as they evaluate differences between wants and needs.
  • Lesson plan: Build your community Students identify businesses that provide goods and services desirable to people in most communities.

The new Iredell Museums is a merger of the old Arts and Sciences Museum, Now the Iredell Museum of Arts and Heritage and the Kids@Play Museum. The mission of the museums is to "preserve, promote, and provide learning experiences in culture, heritage, science, and the arts."

Located at Signal Hill Mall, the Kids@Play Museum "allows children to explore and express themselves through different media and participate in group lessons and activities." In addition to the art, music, and costume exhibits, there are exhibits in architecture and blocks, kitchen and cafe, and natural sciences. The museum also has rotating exhibits on "animal habitats, types of birds, creatures of the sea and seashells, Native American artifacts, and the solar system."

The museum also has outreach programs in public performing arts and in-school programs. The museum also classes and workshops in visual arts, science, language and culture, creative writing, and movement and music.
