Connemara: Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site
A place of solitude and peace for Carl Sandburg and his wife, Connemara is managed by the National Park Service. The home "preserves the Sandburg legacy for future generations."

The nationally renowned poet and Pulitzer prize winner, Carl Sandburg, moved to North Carolina in 1945. Mrs. Sandburg wanted to raise dairy goats and the farm offered the solitude Carl Sandburg needed to write. He lived at this home for 22 years.
The historic site consists of the circa 1838 antebellum house, the 1900’s dairy goat barn complex and a representative goat herd, sheds, rolling pastures, mountainside woods, walking/hiking trails, two small lakes, ponds, flower and vegetable gardens, and an orchard.
The Sandburg home is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Children 16 and younger are admitted for free, Adults $5.00. Please call or email with reservation requests; (828) 693-4178 or CARL_Administration@nps.gov
