• Bennett Place This is Civil War historic landmark was the location of the largest troop surrender of the Civil War.
• Greensboro Sit-ins: Launch of a Civil Rights Movement Hear the stories of those who participated in the Greensboro Sit-ins. Historical images and newspaper accounts will give users a feel for the era and the significance of the sit-ins.
• Guilford Courthouse National Military Park Describes the history of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, which marked the beginning of the end of the Revolutionary struggle. This unillustrated text covers topics including the Southern campaign, the Siege of Charleston, the Battles of Camden, Kings Mountain, and Cowpens. Students will learn about the pivotal battle in the Revolutionary War at the Guilford Courthouse when they visit the Military Park.
• Lesson plan: Learn about your county This activity will allow fourth grade students in North Carolina to learn more about the counties that surround their home county. Using online images, students will create a multimedia presentation to share with others.

Legal

Founded in 1924, the Greensboro Historical Museum has become one of the largest local history museums in the southeast. There are exhibits on Greensboro’s military history, early settlement and transportation. Visitors can trace Guilford County’s history from the Revolutionary War through World War II. There are scheduled lectures and activities throughout the year and educational programs for young people.

The museum has Traveling Trunk exhibits which are available for use in classrooms. These trunks include original items, reproductions, and visual aids. They are easily adapted for any grade level. There are numerous trunk themes ranging from the Early Settlers of Guilford County to African American Success Stories.
