This museum contains exhibits on the history of North Carolina’s forests, starting with the Colonial naval stores industry that gave the state its “Tar Heel” nickname. The NC Museum of Forestry boasts a collection of 1920s North Carolina wood specimens, prehistoric ground sloth bones, forest-related tools, and are in the process of constructing a North Carolina Tree Trail.

Located at 415 S. Madison Street in Whiteville, the museum is open Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM, and Sunday from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Admission is free. For more information e-mail forestrymuseum@ncmail.net or call (910) 914-4185.
