One of the newest members of North Carolina’s Educational State Forest system, Jordan Lake Educational State Forest is home to a wide variety of wildlife including birds of prey, deer, songbirds, flying squirrels, and beavers. Picnic facilities are available, including a shelter to accommodate large groups.

North Carolina’s system of Educational State Forests has been developed for use as a living outdoor classroom. Their purpose is to teach children and adults about the complex, interdependent ecosystems which make up a forest and which can be managed for a multitude of uses. Ranger conducted classes are available to groups of ten or more visiting the Forest. These classes have been designed to meet various science and social studies curriculum guidelines.

Instructor’s activity packets and special study sites are available to assist teachers in using the Forest as an outdoor classroom.
