- Lesson plan: Ecosystem Services - Water Purification This lesson teaches students the importance of healthy ecosystems by investigating the example of natural water purification. Students will learn how ecosystems remove pollution from the water and how much it costs humans to do this artificially once ecosystems are no longer healthy.
- Lesson plan: StreamWatch This lesson is intended as a long term project to determine the overall health of a stream or wetland. Students identify seasonal changes that occur within the ecosystem, ideally with a minimum of bimonthly or monthly monitoring.

Located 112 West Water Street on Hwy 17 in Windsor, the Roanoke/Cashie River Center provides hands-on exhibits, a boardwalk, a Cultural Heritage Walk, historic artifacts, an outdoor amphitheater, a wetlands restoration pond, a gift shop, classroom and educational programs, community activities and more.
