  • Lesson plan: Nature's Checks and Balances This Unit introduces students to several essential understandings. They will learn that plants and animals depend on one another for survival and organisms interact within nature to create a balance. They will also learn that humans can influence and manipulate nature.
  • Lesson plan: Trees in your own back yard How have trees improved our neighborhoods and schoolyards? Students survey trees in the schoolyard and itemize their various benefits. They will consider human impacts on trees in the city landscape and the responsibility of citizens for preserving the urban forest.
  • The Virtual Cave A website full of photographs of caves. There are solution caves, sea caves, lava tube caves, and erosional caves. There is also a link to the U.S. Show Caves Directory and the National Speleological Society so that you can plan a visit to some caves on your own.
  • Educational in Nature A series of environmental education curriculum supplements designed to foster understanding and environmental awareness in the classroom. These activities, games, lesson plans, and information cover such topics as forests, animals, recycling, and energy.
  • Trees are Terrific Travels with Pierre will lead you through the basic knowledge of trees and their importance to us.

Check out the Outdoor Adventure Educational experiences and Environmental Education Labs available for school groups at Camp Cheerio. There are activity options which range from a half an hour to four to six hour programs. Students can experience a variety of outdoor activities and learn about about orienteering, food webs, trees and habitats, caves, teamwork, and much more.
