The Discover Agriculture program is designed as an outdoor farm classroom where elementary students develop an understanding about science and agriculture in a hands-on inquiry based environment. The farm serves as a “living” classroom, providing an ideal environment for observing and learning about plants and animals. Students progress through a series of learning stations at the farm that “walk” the students through farming activities that result in the food they eat. Discovery stations support teaching methods by incorporating discovery learning methods, experiential activities, group interaction and inductive questioning approaches into each lesson. Discover Agriculture uses the farm to teach topics such as science, math, nutrition and environmental education using “real life” experiences and hands on techniques.
The fall and spring tours run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. weekdays September and October and April and May. The cost is $2.00 per student and advanced registration is required. For more information call 336-334-7956.
