Rendezvous Mountain Educational State Forest
North Carolina's system of Educational State Forests has been developed to "teach children and adults about the complex, interdependent ecosystems which make up a forest and which can be managed for a multitude of uses."

- Wild World Colorful maps with profiles and photos of more than 1,000 ecoregions. Wild World maps (which were sent to schools and can be ordered on the site) are made interactive on this website. You can enjoy biodiversity and see the urgency of conserving it. An educator's guide accompanies the maps and offers lesson plans and activities on subjects like map fundamentals, biodiversity, and ecoregions.
- Educational in Nature A series of environmental education curriculum supplements designed to foster understanding and environmental awareness in the classroom. These activities, games, lesson plans, and information cover such topics as forests, animals, recycling, and energy.
- Lesson plan: Public lands: Preserve or develop? This lesson introduces students to the ways that public lands are valued, used, and managed in the United States. Students will compare and contrast different types of public lands, then simulate the decision-making and communication involved in converting private land to public land.
- Lesson plan: Trees of North Carolina Students complete activities including tree and leaf identification, species comparison, online research, measurement, and creative writing in conjunction with monthly visits to the "Iredell County Outdoor Education Site"

Exhibits and displays depicting the ecology of the managed forest can be found at Rendezvous Mountain Educational State Forest in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Rangers conduct classes for groups of 10 or more students designed to meet the North Carolina science and social studies curriculum. In addition, instructor’s activity packets and special study sites are available to assist teachers in using the Forest as an outdoor classroom.
