Dedicated to the history of the Waxhaws region and the memory of our nation’s 7th President, a native of the Waxhaws, this museum has numerous artifacts as well as a film that details the area’s history. The collection contains historic artifacts documenting the development of the region from the time of the Waxhaw Indians, for whom the region is named, until 1900. Subjects include the first European explorers, early settlers, particularly the Scots-Irish, and the boyhood of Andrew Jackson, which was spent in the Waxhaws region. The permanent exhibits also focus on the American Revolution, Jackson’s Presidency, the Civil War, and life in the Waxhaws around 1900.

Guided tours are offered to school groups and demonstrations are available upon request. Call (704) 843-1832 for information. The museum is open Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday, 2pm to 5pm. Admission is $2.00 for children 6-12 and $4.00 for adults. Younger children are admitted free of charge.
