Located about 3 miles off of U.S. Highway 64 just west of Creswell, NC, in the community known as Mt. Tabor, is the Davenport Homestead. It is owned and maintained by the Historical Society of Washington County. The house was originally the home of Daniel Davenport, the first North Carolina senator from Washington County. It is estimated to have been built in the 1770’s but could have been built as early as the 1740’s. The homestead has been renovated by the Historical Society and several outbuildings have been added. Each room of the house displays artifacts of daily life.

Guided tours are available on Fridays for school children, senior citizens and other larger groups by calling Harry Thompson at the Port o’ Plymouth Museum at 252 793 1377.
