The original county seat for Wayne County was Waynesborough. Once a bustling town, it began to decline with the introduction of the Wilmington-Weldon Railroad and the town of Goldsboro. By the end of the Civil War the town was gone.

Today visitors to Waynesborough Historic Village can see a family home, a medical office, a one room school, a law office, a Quaker Meeting House and much more. There is no admission fee and group tours can be arranged. Send email to Waynesborough@earthlink.net or call(919) 731-1653 for more information.
