• Jump Into a Healthy Life Find all the basics on the old-fashioned, but still oh-so-cool sport of jumping rope. Also read about the heart, the circulatory system, and the benefits of exercise. Then try your hand at the quizzes!
• BAM! Body and Mind Focuses on topics such as stress and physical fitness, using kid-friendly lingo, games, quizzes, and other interactive features.
• Lesson plan: Sensing the world around us Students will review the five senses and listen to an Ezra Jack Keats' story in which a blind man uses his senses of hearing and smelling to learn about his neighbors. Students will then experience the difficulty of using only one sense to identify different sounds.
• Lesson plan: Changing lifestyles and heart health Students examine and evaluate changes in diet and lifestyle from prehistoric to modern times and how these differences have spurred the development (and better treatment) of heart disease. Students also critically examine their own diets.

In 1991, The Poe Center opened its doors to provide information to the community to help children and teens lead healthier lifestyles. It has served over 600,000 people from 60 counties in North Carolina.

The Center’s Teaching Theaters provide educational information on nutrition, dental health, family life, general health, and drug use. The Poe Center also has outreach programs where the needs of a school or community are assessed and programs are tailored for their needs.

The Poe Center website provides a list of programs from which educators can choose. It also has grade appropriate information for kids and teens. There is a parent section as well.
