  • Lesson plan: Post visit: Farm landscape book The following lesson plan is the last in a three part unit. Students will have visited the farm landscape four times throughout the year, recording their observations during four seasons. The drawings will incorporate their knowledge of farms from our visits, their exposure to the seasonal landscapes of Grant Wood and Claude Monet, and their knowledge of landscape art and its elements of color and perspective developed at the Museum. The final project will be individual student books containing their landscape drawings and text.
  • Lesson plan: Folklife Students will learn North Carolina folklore, traditions, war activities, local legends, superstitions, food preparation traditions, art, songs and dances which are unique to the area.
  • 4H Virtual Farm The 4-H Virtual Farm uses interactive tours and video to introduce several types of farms and explain how they operate.
  • Kids Farm View images and listen to the sounds of animals on a ranch in Colorado. Also features images and information about the rodeo, wild flowers, farm equipment and more. A spelling bee will help kids learn how to spell the names of several animals.

A warm wholesome family oriented atmosphere can be found on this working farm in Duplin County. Mike’s Farm offers educational field trip programs for school groups in the fall and spring. Take a hayride, pick a pumpkin, see how they grow Christmas trees, and much more. The tour costs $6.00 per person, and reservations are required.
