Tarkil Branch Farm's Homestead Museum
Take a trip back in time to this working farm and museum. Comprised of 32 exhibits and over 850 items, students studying North Carolina history will see what it was like living on a farm in the nineteenth century.

Designed as a place for students to come and learn about life in the nineteenth century, Tarkil Branch Farm’s Homestead Museum offers a guided tour of its museum buildings, a farm tour on a tractor pulled wagon, and a hands on project. In addition to learning about the past, students will learn about farming today. Tarkil Branch Farm grows soybeans, muscadine grapes, blueberries, and corn.
“The museum comprises 11 buildings, including a wonderfully preserved ‘Dogtrot’ style farmhouse from the 1830s, a tobacco barn, a corncrib, a smokehouse, a country store and a chicken house which now serves as an exhibit hall. There are 32 exhibits featuring more than 850 items which include sack dresses, antique quilts, kitchen tools, and antique furniture.”
The special group rates for students (must be at least 12 students) is $6.00 per student. This includes a guided tour of all museum buildings, a farm tour on a tractor pulled wagon, and a hands on project. One teacher, aide, or parent is admitted free for each 15 students.
