  • Lesson plan: Amazing liquid conductor Students will mix a variety of liquid solutions together to see if they will light a light bulb in a electrical circuit. They will be able to identify liquid electrical conductors and nonconductors. Also they will be able to identify that liquid solutions that contain a noticeable amount of acid or salt are good conductors of electricity. Each group of students will make a closed circuit to test their solutions.
  • Energy Quest An animated multimedia website takes kids on an energy journey through chapter stories, games, and energy library to learn about how things work, how to save energy, and even the latest on alternative fuel vehicles.
  • Energy and Science Projects Learn how to use a lemon to make a voltaic battery and power your digital watch and more at this website chock full of science projects. Some of the activities may need to be downloaded to your computer.

Located outside of New Hill, North Carolina, the Harris Energy and Environmental Center offers tours to classes by appointment only. The Center has exhibits on electricity, energy, nuclear power generation, and related environmental issues. Outside, students can take a walk on the White Oak Nature Trail and eat their lunch in the picnic area. For more information and to schedule a visit, call 919-362-3261.
