The Duplin County Veterans Memorial Museum is located at 119 East Hill Street in the L. P. Best house, a Queen Anne style home built in 1894. The house is part of Warsaw’s National Register Historic District.

Entering the first floor of the house will take the visitor back to the turn-of-the-century. Furnishing donated by Mr. L.P.Best, Jr. create a feeling of what it was like to live there when it was the Best family home. Portraits of the owners, their original banquet table and other mahogany pieces, and even a working Victrola can be seen. In the future, the library will have artifacts to highlight Warsaw’s Veterans Day Celebration which is the oldest continuous Veterans Day Celebration in the nation.

The second floor of the house is “dedicated to recognizing Duplin County servicemen and women, and others, through the display of military artifacts and memorabilia.” The displays are arranged in chronological order. Artifacts are tagged with identifying information and items are grouped according to war/conflict era. In addition, one of their permanent exhibits is dedicated as a POW/MIA memorial.

The museum is open Thursdays & Fridays 1-4 and Saturdays by appointment . Call 910-293-2190 for more information and to schedule a visit.
