One of the best places to see local art in the Triangle, ArtSpace “presents quality exhibitions and educational programs in an open studio environment.” Located at 201 East Davie Street in downtown Raleigh, ArtSpace offers free tours for students age 10 years and up. Groups must be small (10-15 people) and chaperoned by at least two adults.

Fifth Grade Social Studies teachers may be interested in the “ Creating Art: The Process and the Product” program. Classes of up to thirty students can participate. They will be divided into two groups. One group will take a tour of the facility, meet artists working there, and observe them at their work, while the other group will be making batik works of art. Then they will switch places so both groups tour and experience the hands-on art project. The cost is $6 per student.

ArtSpace is open Tuesday through Saturday 10am - 6pm and first Fridays 10am - 10pm. For more information and to schedule a tour, contact Welch at awelch@artspacenc.org or 919.821.2787.
