Norlina, North Carolina was settled where the Raleigh & Gaston and Seaboard & Roanoke Railroads came together in 1837. Originally known as Ridgeway Junction, it became a boomtown and later a thriving community. Today, the town celebrates its railroad history with a park, a train library, and a train museum.

Students will discover the history of their community and learn about the “by-gone railroad days” with a visit to the Norlina Train Museum. A former U.S. Department of Defense Hospital Car, built for the U.S. Army in 1945, houses the museum. Inside, visitors will find only local memorabilia which spans from the early days to the present.
