Technical requirements for taking an online course
In order to take a course, you only need an Internet connection and a relatively up-to-date browser. This document explains the hardware requirements for online courses and Web browsers supported by Moodle.
In order to take a course, you need only an Internet connection and a relatively up-to-date browser. Some courses may require you to have extra materials, such as books or CD-ROMs.
Moodle
Moodle is a stand-alone course-delivery system. Participants in online courses do not need to purchase or install it; it is entirely hosted by LEARN NC.
Hardware requirements
In order to use Moodle, you will need access to:
- Windows 2000, XP or Vista, or Mac OSX (or later)
- Windows Pentium 2 processor or better (Pentium 3 recommended), or Macintosh G3 or higher
- 256 megabytes (MB) RAM or more (512 recommended)
- 800×600 screen resolution (1024×768 recommended)
- 1 gigabyte (GB) of hard drive space
- an internet connection
- a Web browser (see below)
Web browsers
To use Moodle, you will need one of the following Web browsers:
- Firefox, version 2.0 or higher (recommended)
- Internet Explorer 6 or 7
- Opera adn Safari will not show build-in html editor in Moodle.
- AOL and Netscape browsers are not supported
Other Software
Depending on your course, you will need access to the following software:
- Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Writer
- Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice Calc
- Microsoft Powerpoint or OpenOffice Impress
