About LEARN NC
LEARN NC, a program of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Education, provides lesson plans, professional development, and innovative web resources to support teachers, build community, and improve K-12 education in North Carolina.
Participation
All educators, parents, and interested members of the community are welcome! Our website offers a wide array of quality resources for K–12 classroom instruction and teacher professional development, all tied to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. All of our resources, except for online courses, are free and open to the public. Anyone may sign up to receive regular email updates about our resources and services and participate in online discussions.
Our strength is in North Carolina’s public schools. All 115 of North Carolina’s public school systems are working with LEARN NC, as are Independent schools, Catholic schools, and charter schools. Each school system and most individual schools have LEARN NC coordinators, primary contacts who manage professional development workshops and provide ongoing feedback on the design and scope of our organization. For a contact in your school system, see our directory of school system coordinators.
History
The "North Carolina Teachers’ Network" began in 1997 with six pilot school systems and a few tiny databases of teaching resources. From these humble beginnings, LEARN NC quickly grew into a statewide program providing thousands of quality resources to teachers and students in all 115 public school systems as well as the Catholic and Independent schools of North Carolina. In 2007–2008, LEARN NC’s website welcomed 30,000 visitors a day seeking innovative ideas for teaching and learning. While most are from North Carolina, 7 percent are from outside the United States, and we have received emails and reprint requests from as far away as China and Singapore!
Advisory board
The LEARN NC Advisory Board is composed of educational leaders in schools and agencies, university faculty, technology experts, and corporate and foundation leaders. Board members help us think creatively and strategically about where to invest the valuable resource that LEARN NC represents to have the greatest possible impact on K-12 education. See who serves on the advisory board.
Partners
