Education Reference: Collection Policy
The purpose of LEARN NC's Education Reference is to provide definitions of common terms in K–12 education as well as information that contextualizes the terms and, where appropriate, links to examples and resources that will help teachers implement teaching ideas in their classrooms. These guidelines explain our policy for including entries in the Education Reference.
The purpose of LEARN NC’s Education Reference is to provide definitions of common terms in K–12 education as well as information that contextualizes the terms and, where appropriate, links to examples and resources that will help teachers implement teaching ideas in their classrooms.
Selection of terms
This reference provides:
- definitions of terms that are specific to K–12 education, such as instructional strategies, and
- explanations of the specific educational contexts of other terms and concepts.
It is by no means intended to be an exhaustive glossary of all ideas and concepts covered by the curriculum. Special consideration is given to terms that are complex or poorly understood, that are controversial, or are instructional strategies for which significant web-based resources are available.
Entries
Each entry provides a basic definition of the term. In many cases, we also provide an extended definition of the term, which explains the term or concept and its educational context in greater depth. In extended definitions, special attention is paid to how teachers can implement educational concepts in their classrooms. Where possible, links are included to resources on LEARN NC and on the web that provide further information, examples, or strategies for implementation.
Entries are never considered “finished”! New entries are frequently added and existing entries continually updated as time permits. Our goal is to provide extended definitions for each term in the reference.
If you wish to suggest a term for inclusion in the reference, please contact us.
