Pre-activities
- Complete the “Going Batty” lesson plan that is available on LearnNC.
- Brainstorm a vocabulary list of words pertaining to bats.
- Model couplet poetry for students.
- Model concrete poetry for students using Kid Pix.
Activities
- Students will work with a partner to create rhyming phrases using their bat vocabulary lists.
- Students will use Kid Pix (goodies-alphabet text, “abc” paintbrush) to create a concrete shape poem about bats using their appropriate vocabulary words.
Assessment
- Completed couplet poetry sample
- Completed concrete poem with supplementary illustrations.
