  • Computer with Kid Pix software loaded
  • Electronic clip art pictures of bats

Pre-activities

  • Complete “Going batty: Part I” lesson
  • Brainstorm a vocabulary list of words pertaining to bats.
  • Model couplet poetry for students.
  • Model concrete poetry for students using Kid Pix.

Activities

  1. Students will work with a partner to create rhyming phrases using their bat vocabulary lists.
  2. Students will use Kid Pix (goodies-alphabet text, “abc” paintbrush) to create a concrete shape poem about bats using their appropriate vocabulary words.

Assessment

  • Completed couplet poetry sample
  • Completed concrete poem with supplementary illustrations.
