The Very Hungry Caterpillar
The learner will be doing curriculum integrated activities using Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar. (Grade K English Language Arts and Mathematics)
Body Graphing
“Body Graphing” is an interactive graphing activity involving manipulatives to compare graphing results. With the use of ropes and unifix cubes students will learn to compare and contrast their body with classmates. The graphing activity can be extended to graph differences with height, hair and eye color, and other physical attributes. (Grade 1 Mathematics)
Telling Time Practice with a Website Applet
Students will practice telling time skills using an applet developed by Shodor Educational Foundation, Inc. Students will become familiar with how an analog clock and its corresponding written notation look. They will also be able to look at an analog clock and write the time using numbers correctly to the minute.(grade 2 Mathematics)
You Sank my Battleship
Students will learn how to plot ordered pairs using the coordinate plane and determine in which quadrant these ordered pairs lie. Students will show mastery of plotting ordered pairs by playing Battleship. Modifications have been added for Intermediate Low English Language Learners. (Grade 3–4 and 7–12 English Language Development and Mathematics)
Rocket Launch
Students will work individually and in collaborative pairs or groups to solve a rocket-launch problem. The pairs/groups will then present potential solutions to the class for discussion. Similar problems will then be solved and created by students. (Grade 5 Mathematics)
Coordinate Plane Art Work
For this lesson students will go to the computer lab and use the General Coordinate Game applet created by the Shodor Foundation to obtain a more specific understanding of the coordinate plane, its parts, and how it can be used to graph points. Afterwards, the students will practice using the coordinate plane by drawing a picture on a coordinate plane and then writing out directions (using coordinates) for that picture to be replicated exactly by another student, who will not see the picture but will follow the directions. (Grade 6 Mathematics)
