  • Greece: Part 1: This lesson is one of three created as an interdisciplinary unit on the connection between the art and artifacts of a culture and the values and beliefs of the members of that culture. This unit begins with a class-wide investigation of Ancient Greece and concludes with a visit to the Ackland Art Museum. During the visit, students will have the opportunity to assess their predictions about the Ancient Greeks. In addition, students will look at works of art from other cultures and compare and contrast the visual information provided about those cultures with visual information provided about Greek culture.

In this lesson for grade six, students will learn about foreign currency exchange rates and will understand the importance of currency exchange in the travel industry.
Travel Brochure for Western Europe

Students will explore a particular country in Western Europe and get a general overview of the country. This is an activity designed to cover a great amount of material in a brief period of time.
Analyzing Statistics S.S. Europe and Russia
Students will gather statistical information on countries in Europe and Russia from almanacs. The information will be recorded in a chart. Students will then take the information and make line or bar graphs. Students will analyze the information by answering higher level thinking questions.
Xpeditions Express
In this lesson from Xpeditions, young students will take a virtual trip on National Geographic’s Xpeditions Express through Europe to the cities of London, Paris, Innsbruck, Venice, Budapest, and Istanbul. Students will use clues relating to the descriptions that they have read to select the cities they would most like to visit.
European Shadow Puppets
Students will work in cooperative groups first to read a fairy tale by a European author. Then they will make shadow puppets to use on an overhead projector. Finally, they will present their puppet shows to their class.
