Moodle - Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently asked questions about Moodle, LEARN NC's new learning management system.
What is Moodle?
Moodle is an open source learning management system that allows LEARN NC to offer online courses to users, as well as enable North Carolina educators to teach a class of their own online.
Moodle takes the place of LEARN NC’s Blackboard platform. Moodle’s widespread use throughout North Carolina and open-source development made it a logical and cost-effective replacement.
Can I still teach my e-Commerce I course in Blackboard?
No. After June 23, 2008, all user-taught K-12 and professional development courses hosted by LEARN NC will be taught in Moodle. Note: this does not apply to teachers in the University of North Carolina General Administration’s 2+2 Program..
How do I become eligible to teach e-Commerce I (or any other course) in my school system using LEARN NC’s Moodle server?
To become eligible you must first complete Moodle Training.
How do I request a copy of a LEARN NC course to teach in my own school system?
After you complete Moodle Training, please contact the registrar, who will take you through the process. LEARN NC will create a new copy of the course you request. You can then customize or edit your course to meet your system’s needs. For further information on requesting courses, please see Teach an online course in your school.
I didn’t receive my Moodle password. What should I do?
Our system automatically sends passwords to the email address you specified in your user account. It’s possible you entered your address incorrectly. Please contact the Help Desk to reset your password.
Do I have to take Blackboard Training before I take Moodle Training?
No. Moodle Training is open to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis.
My school system has a Blackboard system of its own. Can I get an archive of my course to use on that server?
Yes. Simply contact our registrar, who will arrange for an archived copy to be made for you. There is no cost for this service.
What courses are available for me to teach in my school system?
For a list of courses that are currently available, please see our support document on Teach an online course in your school.
I need to take Blackboard Training to teach at the North Carolina Virtual Public School. When will your next Blackboard Training be offered?
LEARN NC no longer offers Blackboard Training courses to the public. Please contact NCVPS for more information on receiving Blackboard Training.
