In this lesson for grade seven, students will act as fair planners ordering food for the Dixie Classic Fair. Students will calculate percentages to determine how much food to order.

Activities
- Ask the students if any of them have attended a fair such as the Dixie Classic Fair or the North Carolina State Fair. Tell students they will take on the role of planners for the Dixie Classic Fair. Students will be in charge of ordering food items for the fair, and must order enough to last the entire 10-day fair week. (5 minutes)
- Place students in groups of two or three, and hand out the fair concession worksheet. Instruct students to complete the worksheet. (40 minutes)
- Project the overhead copy of the worksheet and have each group write answers to share with the class. (5 minutes)
- Discuss with students what other careers might need to calculate percents. (Examples may include loan officers, retail workers, small business owners, etc.) (5 minutes)
