The Richmond County Historical Society has restored an old one-room schoolhouse north of Ellerbe on Clayton Carriker Road. Over the years, the structure had been used as as a peach packhouse, tobacco barn and tools shed. The restoration process included leveling and stabilizing the foundation and replacing boards with those from the old Gaston Green House which was torn down. Other wood came from the old Hamlet Ice House. The Bostick Schoolhouse is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

To tour the schoolhouse, contact Mrs. Lillian Sherrill at (910)652-5821.
