The mission of Maize Adventure is to provide visitors with “an unforgettable experience that will stimulate the imagination, encourage team initiative, and leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.”
Each fall a beautiful corn maze is created on the farm of the Wohlgemuth family. It is not only a fun experience, but it challenges students to work together and read a map while they make their way to the center of the maze and back out again.
In addition, Maize Adventure has programs tailored to teach students in grades K-7 with curriculum materials to use in the classroom. They teach students about crops from the planting of the seeds to the harvesting of the food. They have a special program on rocks and their properties which includes an gem dig activity. Gemstones such as amethyst, citrine, topaz, ruby, sapphire, garnet, tourmaline, and other gem stone can be found.
A fossil dig is also available where students can find prehistoric fossils of sea urchins, ammonites, gastropods, shark teeth, assorted shells, brachiods, and petrified wood just to name a few. Their Dinosaur Discovery area allows students to replicate the work of real paleontologists as they dig through layers of sand applying the basic science process skills of observation, communication, and classification.
At the end of the day, students can pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch to take home with them.
