The education staff at the Walnut Creek Wetlands Center gives programs for K-12 students to learn more about the wetlands found in the Raleigh area. The Center’s mission is to “increase people’s awarness of the importance of wetlands, wildlife habitats, hydrology, natural ecosystems, and human interactions with the natural environment.”

The 60 acre area in the Neuse River Basin contains wooded floodplains and farmland. African American farmers worked this land years ago and old fence posts and furrows can still be seen. The Center is located at 950 Peterson Street in Raleigh and is closed on Mondays.

For more information about the Center, its programs, and reservations for field trips, please call (919) 831-1960.
