Course description

A portfolio is more than just a folder of student work samples. The very process of planning and collecting artifacts for portfolios provides students opportunities to showcase what they can do, reflect on their own learning, and to identify areas in which they can improve.

This course will give you an in-depth look at the power of digital portfolios to document student learning. You will explore a variety of tools for creating, assembling, and evaluating digital portfolios. You will leave the course with detailed plans for implementing a digital portfolio project in your own classroom. This course will also teach participants some of the principles of blended learning.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, you will understand:

  • what a student portfolio could look like.
  • reasons for using portfolios for students.
  • steps for developing a portfolio plan to enhance student learning.
  • criteria for determining artifacts in a student portfolio.
  • criteria for evaluating a student portfolio.
  • tips for managing portfolio development.
