Course description

K-12 education has entered a new technological era. In increasingly dynamic educational settings, technological resources can be integrated into the curriculum to promote student engagement and achievement. In order to take advantage of these settings, teachers need to have the appropriate knowledge and experience.

In this course, students will learn to integrate technologies such as Web 2.0 tools and mobile learning devices to create engaging learning experiences for your students. By taking advantage of the latest classroom technology, you can help your students communicate, share ideas, and collaborate with students across the globe.

Students will:

  • experiment with and discuss free Web 2.0 tools for lesson development.
  • create an overview of an instructional activity with a Tool of the Week to enhance student learning.
  • learn and reflect about emerging professional knowledge domains: technology, pedagogy, content, and the combination of each of these areas.

Course objectives

Teachers will be able to identify and reflect upon constructs for technological, pedagogical and content knowledge. The overall goal is to help teachers formulate effective technology-integrated lessons appropriate for their specific content, aligned to the International Society for Technology Education’s (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards for Students (2007).

Students will:

  • plan and design effective learning experiences supported by technology.
  • Gain basic knowledge, skills and understanding of concepts related to technology integration.
  • Discuss and reflect on basic concepts associated with technological, pedagogical and content knowledge (TPACK).
  • demonstrate and discuss technology-enhanced instruction that aligns North Carolina Standard Course of Study’s learner outcomes and ISTE’S NETS-S.
