Course description

Tackling Misconceptions in Grades 6-8 Physical Science is designed to provide physical science content information and resources for the practicing middle school teacher while also focusing on recommended national and state curriculum objectives. Participants will actively explore physical science misconceptions and discuss strategies to combat these misconceptions. Emphasis will be placed the importance of knowing children’s prior knowledge in covered topics and how best to use that knowledge.

Course objectives

The goal of this course is to prepare participants to become confident and competent instructors of physical science concepts at the middle school level by investigating and discussing student misconceptions and by applying effective practices and strategies for teaching these concepts.

Prerequisites
Blackboard/Moodle Training (or approved substitute) and Teaching Online Course through the COLT program.
Audience
Audience: 6-8 grade science teachers are the primary participants, although the content is applicable for physical science teachers in the high school.
