  • Intrigue of the Past: Teach your students about North Carolina's fascinating past. This edition contains lesson plans about the fundamental concepts, processes, and issues of archaeology, as well as essays for the teacher with detailed information about four periods in North Carolina's ancient history.
  • Geography centers: A geography unit in which students investigate and compare their hometowns and other cities. The unit incorporates nine centers: math, science, social studies, reading, writing, computers, puzzles and games, art, and listening. They all have activities that are integrated with the geography unit.
  • Collecting family stories: Students will interview relatives and compose a family story on the computer. This lesson was completed in conjunction with two other lesson plans (art and media) using the same theme but could be used alone. Student work from all three lessons was compiled in a student portfolio.

The Atlantic Coast Conference in partnership with Guilford County teachers have developed these units for grades K–8. While the lesson plans are based on ACC Women’s Basketball and are meant to can be taught within the context of the tournament, their focus on math, science, social studies, language arts, character development, and physical education make them useful and interesting to students any time of the school year. The curriculum guide has been updated this year with new lessons in science, social studies, and English language arts.

This year (2010) the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament will be held March 4–7. School Day Games are scheduled for March 4th and 5th at 11:00 a.m.
