Teacher planning
Time required for lesson
45 minutes
Technology resources
- computer for each student with internet access (It is helpful to have the site already bookmarked and up on each computer.)
- display computer / projector / smart TV to project and show examples to students
- printer
Pre-activities
Students may need to have instruction regarding word processing skills regarding copy and paste, and typing in a scavenger hunt.
Students may also need instruction on using the back button to navigate between the websites and the scavenger hunt.
Activities
- Review what a link looks like in the scavenger hunt (underlined, different color, cursor changes to a hand when over it). Review how to copy and paste the answers back in the scavenger hunt, or how to type in the answer. Review how to click on back one time to get back to the scavenger hunt. If these are not skills that have been previously taught, a complete lesson on these skills may be necessary prior to the activity.
- Teacher describes activity and demonstrates how to click on a link. The teacher reminds students to read carefully and then copy and paste or use the back button and insert the text or select the correct answer in the scavenger hunt.
- This activity can also be done one step at a time with younger children each performing the step and the teacher reading and or discussing the information presented at each website, and then assisting the children in choosing the answers.
- Students enter their name and begin to access scavenger hunt sites and insert answers either independently or as described with the teacher. The scavenger hunt can be printed when complete.
Assessment
- Rubric for scoring.
- Informally assess and check to see if answers on scavenger hunt are correct.
