Sonya Rexrode
This is my 11th year in education. I obtained my B.A. in math education, grades five through twelve, from Fairmont State College in Fairmont, West Virginia and my M.A. in middle grades education with a specialty in math from Appalachian State University. I also have an AG licensure add-on. I received National Board Certification for early adolescence math in 2003.
For the first nine years of my career, I taught 8th grade math. From the classroom, I became the curriculum coordinator at Hanes Middle School. In November ‘07, a federal magnet grant I had written was accepted and we became a magnet school for math, science, and pre-engineering. In January ‘08, I became a magnet resource teacher. My main responsibilities are unit planning in all core and encore areas, budget, and completion of all magnet paperwork.
