Elaine Cox
Elaine Cox was born and raised in Ashe County, North Carolina. She graduated from Appalachian State University with Bachelor’s degrees in accounting and secondary education. In 1996, she began teaching middle grades English language arts and math at Piney Creek Elementary in Alleghany County.
Elaine has earned National Board Certification and a Master’s degree in middle grades English language arts. In 2003 she accepted a position at Ashe County High School teaching English and algebra. Five years later, she accepted a new position as the first Literacy Specialist at the high school, where her duties include modeling best practices for teachers and students, helping plan lessons and activities, and providing staff development for the faculty.
Elaine has been named “Teacher of the Year” for both Alleghany and Ashe Counties and is involved in numerous educational societies. She is an accomplished pianist and performs frequently in Ashe and surrounding counties.
